The Places We Go

So this weekend I was off from work. It has been so nice. While I was able to find things to do to fill each day it was nice to have the chance to just do stuff on the weekend without being on a time schedule and realizing that I should really be sleeping.

Saturday we had auditions for Snoopy at the Junior Theatre. For those of you who don't know I was asked to be the choreographer for Snoopy. I'm super excited because number 1 it's with Junior Theatre, which is how I got started in theatre, and number 2 "Snoopy" is one of the shows that I did growing up. So that's very, very awesome. Although it is a little nerve-racking to be choreographing again. But I'm sure it will turn out well.

So that took up most of my day on Saturday, but it was a ton of fun and we got the show casted and I had a good time running the dance part of the auditions. So yay! Then today I was able to go to church this morning which was nice. Then I went out to lunch with my friend Gail who I haven't been able to hook up with recently since we are both on very different and awkward schedules. So that was nice. I'm actually writing this blog while sitting at her house cause I'm keeping her company while she cleans her house. I brought Blossom with me and Gail's son clipped Blossom's nails for me! It was good cause her nails were getting kinda long. He also clipped all of their dog's nails. So yay! And this way Gail got to see Blossom again and Blossom got to hang out with all the dogs at Gail's house, although they weren't really into hanging out together. I guess they all kinda forgot each other. But I think she had fun anyway. Plus it just kinda got her out of the house.

So yeah. It was nice to have an actual weekend. Although next week I get to go back to working all weekend. Which will be nice to get back to a routine as well. So good things both ways. But yeah, that's what's going on with me right now. Cheers!

My Sewing Project

So today I got back to work on sewing finally. I didn't quite get as much done as I would have liked, but I did get a good start going. I'll hopefully be sufficiently motivated to get more work done and finish some of the projects that I've been working on. Like poor Gail's pajamas. We'll see how it goes.

But while I was sewing I decided to take a couple pictures to show my work area and the progress I've made on the dress. Here goes!

So here is the Dining Area table. Which is where my sewing machine sits. You can also see my sewing box on the chair in the fore and the trash can from my room which I use for lose threads and the like. You can also see my laptop in the back of the picture. That way I had some entertainment while I was working.

Here is a shot of the body of the dress which is mostly done. All I need to do are put on the sleeves, put in the zipper/hook and eye, and hem it. You can't really tell, but it's a dark green color with a black lining. Yay!

Here's a shot of just the bodice of the dress which is sitting on the Ironing board. Which as you can see in the picture above I moved onto the Dining Area table as well. Unfortunately with and apartment its hard to find a dedicated place for sewing.

And last but not least are the sleeves. I still need to put the bands on them and then attach them to the body, but they are all put together and basted. So that's where I'm at. Once the dress is done I'll for sure take a picture of it, and can maybe convince Sam to model it for me. Have a wonderful day!

Man It's Been Awhile

So I really need to stop saying that I'm going to update more often. Because every time I say that then I don't update for a really long time. Although in my defense I really don't have that much happening in my life. So I don't feel like I have that much to write about that anyone would be interested in. Honest. I'm kinda boring.

Anyway, we had our first real snow of the season this week and my mother has asked me to post pictures of it. So here are some views around my apartment building. My cousins Elizabeth and Paul posted about having to shovel snow from their driveway after the storm went through Colorado. Luckily I don't have to do that because I live in an apartment building, so they take care of that for me.

This is a shot across our parking lot to the houses that are just behind us.

And here is the view jsut to the right of that. I think that's my car in the lower left hand corner. Isn't it cute?
And here's the back of the building. You can see the little patio area that people use for bar-b-ques when the weather is nicer.
To the left of our back door is the bird feeder all covered with snow as well.
This shot is through the trees behind our building and down the hill. Those houses are across the street diagonally from our little hill. The street that you see is 12th Ave. I turn left there in order to go to work every day.

So there are some shots of the snow. I'll have to put up some more pictures from life in the Quad Cities as soon as I get them. Unfortunatley I'm not as good at taking pictures as my mother is. But I've got some good ones of my animals that I'll have to put up eventually.

Other than that things are moving along as always. My Thanksgiving was great. I went to the house of a family that has adopted me since I first moved here. They go to my church. We had an amazing meal cooked by the father of the family. I played quite a bit of air hockey, watched "Sleeping Beauty" which I hadn't seen in a long time and played cards. It was a great holiday.

I did audition for the Mouse Trap at Playcrafter's which is the next show they are doing, but was not lucky enough to get a part. So now I'm just sort of waiting until auditions come around for the next set of shows. I do know that auditions for Music Guild are in February. So I'm attempting to figure out what I want to sing for that. I'm thinking maybe something from "Anything Goes" since that would match my vocal range a little better. However I do not have the score from that, which I will need to audition...(hint, hint parents...that's a Christmas present idea for you). :). So we'll see what happens.

Ok, I think that's all for now. I hope you all enjoyed reading and please feel free to leave comments!

Wait....Snow?

Yes folks, that's right. We've got snow. Hopefully it won't be too much and won't really stick, but it is for sure coming out of the sky. Yuck. We were hoping that winter would hold off a little longer this year since last year's was so bad. Oh well. I guess you can't win them all. But who knows it could warm up again right after this. Craziness though.

So today I got to be my 6th role in Anne of Green Gables. It's actually kinda fun to be able to help out with the rehearsal process. Plus it gets me back in the theatre a little more. Although I do have to say that it's kinda weird to get thrown into a scene when you have no idea what's going on. But unlike the show "An Actor's Nightmare" I have a script, and it's not in the middle of an actual performance. So that's good at least. Tomorrow night I will be reading, but not actually standing in for my 7th part in the show. So we'll see how that goes. Should be fun. Ok. I think that's all. Short one today.

Good Grief

I keep thinking that I'm going be so good at keeping people updated on my life and then time goes by and I realize it's been like 2 weeks since the last time I updated. I guess I just feel like things in my life don't really change, so I feel like I don't have that much to talk about. Which in a way is kinda sad. Oh well.

I have now been a Radiology Group employee for 2 weeks. Things are going pretty well. I'm picking up the scheduling stuff at a pretty decent pace. Luckily all the techs are very willing to answer any questions I have. Although this week, my fellow scheduler Judy is going on vacation, so we'll see how I do on my own back there. In terms of the digitizing we keep thinking that it's going to get less. And most days there are less films to digitize, but then we'll get a day that all of a sudden has a ton to do. So it's hard to really determine when it's going to slow down. But luckily I have the help of the techs with this as well. So that's neat.

Lately I've been working three nights at the Courtyard. I realized that it's actually not too bad to do Fri, Sat, and Sunday nights. It's much easier to do it that way then to do Thurs, Fri, Sat. Makes my sleeping pattern a little bit easier. I honestly don't mind working three nights at the Courtyard after my full week at Radiology Group. I do have my days where I'm very tired, but for the most part things are going rather well. Now I just have to get around to also doing some fulfilling things at home. Like my sewing projects that still aren't done. That and I have to finish cleaning and organizing my room and pack before my trip to Cal. for my cousin's wedding.

Oh yeah, I don't think I've mentioned the trip to Cal in a while. I am leaving on Friday to head back to Ventura for my cousin's wedding on Nov 1. Then my parent's and I will be staying for about a week to do some fun vacationing and visiting some of my Dad's side of the family that we haven't seen in a while. So that will be fun. Originally Samantha was going to come with me, but she has decided to go and visit her family in South Carolina for the week instead, which I think is a good idea because I know she's been missing them lately. So yeah, that's what's been going on with that.

Theatre-wise I've been doing some set building/lights for Anne of Green Gables at Playcrafter's. I've also been a stand-in body for a couple of the actors who had to miss rehearsals. That was kinda fun. Acting with no real pressure. It was just neat to be at the rehearsal and see how the show is taking shape. It looks really good. Can't wait to see it with costumes and everything. So yeah, I'll probably help with a couple of the shows and I'll for sure be there for strike, so that's how I've been keeping theatre in my life for right now. I know auditions for shows for early next year are starting to come up at several of the theatres, so I might be telling you all that I'm in another show sometime soon. Who knows? Oh yeah...I've also been asked to do lights for The King and I at Music Guild next summer. So I for sure have that to look forward to. Plus I'll also be auditioning for them as well. Although I can't be in King and I since I'm doing lights, but maybe one of their other summer shows. So yeah all kinda of stuff coming up that I might be more inclined to post about.

I think that's all for now. Thanks for reading and feel free to comment!

My Last Day!!

As a temp that is. I faxed in my last time card as an Office Team employee! It was a very exciting moment that I didn't really get to celebrate except for a little cheer for myself. On Monday I clock in for the first time as a Radiology Group employee! It's very exciting for me.

So I've been training on scheduling all this week. And let me tell you it is exhausting. I don't know what it is about learning a new job that just takes it out of you. I think part of it is that I'm also still kinda doing the digitizing at the same time. Crazy stuff, I know. But I'm actually getting a lot of help from my Supervisor and all the techs to get that job done so that I can be over answering phones most of the day. So that's really cool. We're getting it all figured out.

Other than that things are pretty normal. Not too much happening. This weekend I'm going to be helping to hang lights and do some finishing building on the set for Anne of Green Gables, so that's exciting. Yep, that and sleeping so I'm all set to go for next week. So yeah. That's all!

Staying Put And Moving Up

So, the big news is that Sam and I have decided that the best thing to do for our finances and our sanity is to stay in our apartment for another year. We talked about this at length and are both very happy with the decision. The only thing left to do is break the news to Katie. Hopefully that will go ok. I feel bad backing out on her, but honestly at this point it is the best thing for all of us. It will give her time to get more secure in her own life and maybe next year we can rethink the whole moving to a house concept. But for now this is the best thing.

Ok, on to the other big news. I will be officially hired at Radiology Group as of Oct. 13. Yay! This is very exciting for me. I've been a temp with them since the end of May, so that's super exciting. The other part of that is that my job is changing. One of our schedulers is getting a job that better suits her lifestyle and needs. So they asked me if I would be interested in doing scheduling. I said, "Absolutely". So for the last week, (about), I've been trying to see how long the digitizing for each day will take as well as starting to learn the scheduling job. I got word today that I'm for sure going to be doing the scheduling, so that's exciting. However we're still attempting to figure out if they will need to hire another person for the digitizing. So for a while I might be doing both jobs. We'll see how this goes. But eventually I'll be scheduling full time. So that's cool.

Yeah, I think that's all for now. I hope all is well with everyone who reads this!

An Epiphany

So here I am sitting at work at the Courtyard and typing up a new blog. It's actually really nice to be back at the Courtyard. I haven't been here for a couple weeks, at least not on my regular shift. And it feels like forever. While I was doing "Promises, Promises" my manager was nice enough to let me have the nights off for the show. This was good because it allowed me to fully be a part of the whole production. What with the parties and mingling after the shows, I was able to get to know and hang out with the other cast members even more. So that was nice. But I never thought I would miss work. It was kinda nice to come back. Strange feeling for me.

I was talking to my Dad today about a couple of things and one thing I told him was very, very true. I'm happy with where I am in life right now. I like both of my jobs a lot. It's not a chore to go to work everyday. I enjoy it. I mean, I do have my moments where I wish I didn't need to work so much, but for the most part I really like going to work everyday. And I don't really want to not work. That's kind of a big thing for me. To be really happy with where I am in life. I mean obviously it would be nice if my finances were a little more secure, but other than that things are all good. I'm honestly and truly happy. It's a weird thing for me to feel.

So yeah. That's kinda all I wanted to say. Tomorrow, or rather later today I get to help build sets for "Anne of Green Gables", the next show at Playcrafter's. So that should be fun. It's nice to help out and be involved in shows in different ways. I'm glad that there is such an active theatre community here in the Quad Cities. I can't wait to get more involved in all of it. Well, little by little. Have a great day!

Quick Note

Just a quick note to say hello. I am mainly keeping busy with both my jobs. As I am now back to my normal schedule of work, work and more work. Although I did stop in at Starbucks yesterday and talked to Chris, the lead from "Promises, Promises". It was nice to say hello and get the chance to catch up a little with him. He's one of the supervising managers at the Starbucks just down the street from my job. It was neat to find that out while we were working on the show.

The other thing keeping me busy is attempting to find a new place to live. Sam and my lease is up October 31st. So we need to be out of our apartment by then. However we are both looking for new places to live on opposite sides of the river. She's going to be living with a friend of her's here in Illinois and I'm going to live with Katie in Iowa. So I'm kinda sad that we won't be living together anymore, but I think it is the best idea we could come up with so that everyone will be happy. Now I just have to find a two-bedroom house to live in, in Iowa. Wish me luck!

All Good Things...

Unfortunately today is the last show of "Promises, Promises". We have a matinee show at 3:00 and then we get to strike the set and afterwards we'll have a final cast party. Although I'm kinda sad about it, hopefully it won't be too long before I'm in another show. But for now I need to get some much needed rest and work on finding a new place to live as Samantha and my apartment lease is up on Nov. 1st. So hopefully we find a new place soon. Please keep our search in your prayers! Other than that life will back to normal working both jobs on my old crazy schedule. So that's all for now. I hope all is well with anyone who reads my blog!

The Costumes I Made

So here a few pictures of the costumes I made for "Promises Promises". I was very happy with how they turned out. I was also kinda surprised that they look so good. So now I just have to get moved on to all the other 5 million sewing projects I need to start/finish. Starting with Sam's dress from last Halloween. Whoops!

Here are Tami and Janette in their costumes.

In the picture above Sam was trying on Tami's costume for me so that I was sure that it would fit her properly because Sam is about the same size as Tami. So that's was good.
And here is Janette's dress all finished but before I was able to have her try it on for the final time. It actually looks kinda funny, but what are you going to do.

So yeah, that's what I've been keeping myself busy with lately. Fun times. I'll hopefully update more soon!

Wow! A Third Blog!

Ok, so I've joined the Laufer family circle! Hopefully I can keep all of these straight. I will probably continue to copy and paste the same things from one blog to another. So stay tuned for more in the crazy life of Sara!
